The Kanawha County Commission is reminding voters they may vote in person if they have already requested and received an absentee ballot.

If a voter has received an absentee ballot and has not returned it, he or she may still vote in-person during early voting or on Election Day if the voter would like to do so, according to a news release from the commission.

The voter must bring his or her absentee ballot to the polling place and give it to a poll worker so the worker can void the ballot. The voter may then vote as normal.

Currently, 43 absentee ballots have been voided as the voter chose to vote in-person after they received their absentee ballot.

If the voter does not bring the absentee ballot with to the polling location, the voter will be required to vote a provisional ballot that will not be reviewed until the Election Canvass on June 15, the release said. The county clerk will check to make sure the absentee ballot was not submitted by mail before the provisional ballot can be counted.

A large number of provisional ballots will delay election results.

So far, 26 provisional ballots have been cast in Kanawha County.

Absentee ballots may be requested until June 3. Ballots must be postmarked by June 9, which is Election Day, to be counted.

Because of the coronavirus, anyone may request an absentee ballot. To do so, contact the county clerk’s office at 304-357-0110.

Kanawha County received 29,901 absentee ballot requests and 14,337 have been returned to the Voter’s Registration Office.
