Kanawha County health officials are urging residents to stay vigilant after 16 cases were linked to a recent wedding.

The wedding took place at Little Creek Park Golf Course in South Charleston, according to a news release Monday from the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department.

“Weddings are a joyful time, but we can’t forget that we’re in the middle of a pandemic,” Dr. Sherri Young, health officer and executive director of the health department, said. “If you go to a wedding or any other event where you’re with other people, please wear a mask, stay 6 feet away from others, and wash your hands frequently. Protecting ourselves and others is our number one priority and we have to do all that we can to stop the spread of this virus.”

Coronavirus cases have been soaring in Kanawha County. There are currently 745 active cases, and the county has had a total of 56 deaths.

The county has been orange on the state’s county alert system map, which allows no in-person classes at schools or sports competitions at county schools.
