A jury in Cabell County found a Marshall University football player not guilty of two charges Wednesday after he was accused of attacking a woman last year.

Brandon Drayton, a defensive back for the Thundering Herd, pleaded not guilty to felony strangulation and misdemeanor domestic battery after an October 2019 incident where he was accused of grabbing a woman around the neck and yelling at her.

Drayton was originally scheduled to appear in court in March before the coronavirus pandemic temporarily halted proceedings.

The jury deliberated for about two hours Wednesday after opening arguments began in the morning.

The Florida native was suspended from team-activities in October.
