Hundreds of flags have been placed at Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington as part of The Healing Field, serving as a vigil for the thousands of lives lost in both tragedies.
"If you don't remember history it repeats itself, and you know these were a lot of lives lost and it's the least we can do to pay respect this time each year,” Lauren Carte, city recreation superintendent, said.
People can also purchase a flag to honor a loved one, and the money goes towards the cemetery’s bell tower fund.

The flags can be picked up Monday.
