Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory on Peter's Mountain in Monroe
County, West Virginia, is a former fire tower now used to monitor raptor migration.
Every year, starting around the first of September, volunteers man the tower to
watch for migrating hawks, eagles, falcons, and ospreys. The building was built in 1956, was destroyed by fire on February 10, 1996. It was rebuilt in the summer of 1997 using the original plans.
