![]() Log House Homestead A Winter Escape In Ritchie County
![]()
After retiring from public service, Dick and Martha Hartley decided to realize a dream. Using timber cut from their own property, they constructed The Log House Homestead. It took 10 years of intense labor, doing things the old way. Massive hand hewn poplar logs provide the outer walls, the inner walls are constructed of native West Virginia hardwoods such as walnut, cherry, hickory, and oak.
While the home was built in the pioneer style, guests can still enjoy 21st century amenities like two beautiful bedrooms, two bathrooms, a two person jacuzzi, and a small kitchen with a microwave oven and refrigerator. A visit to the Log House Homestead is a relaxing and quiet experience, with no television or telephone to interrupt your piece and quiet. Guests enjoy the use of the entire house, and it can accommodate five adults comfortably. Located beside the popular North Bend Rail Trail, bicycle enthusiasts couldn't ask for a more convenient base of operations. Don't miss this one of a kind escape in rural Ritchie County.
