WVU-MU Baseball: Mountaineers defeat Thundering Herd for second time

The No. 21 Mountaineers handed Marshall an 8-4 setback on Tuesday evening at Appalachian Power Park.

Entering as a nationally-ranked team, West Virginia topped the Thundering Herd of Marshall, 8-4, on Tuesday evening inside Charleston's Appalachian Park.

The Mountaineers scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

In the bottom of the second, the Herd would draw within one. But West Virginia took another two-run lead in the top of the third with Marshall getting back one in the bottom of the inning.

West Virginia jumped ahead 5-2 before the Herd again got the lead down to one in the bottom of the fifth at 5-4.

The Mountaineers would add the final three runs of the game.

With the win the Mountaineers improved to 22-13 while Marshall fell to 18-18.
