WVU Football: Simms will be out for Mountaineer opener with Tech
MORGANTOWN (WCHS/WVAH) - When the Mountaineer football team meets Virginia Tech in the season opener on September 3 in Landover, Maryland, they will do so without sophomore wide receiver Marcus Simms, who has been suspended for the contest against the Hokies.
Over the weekend, Simms was arrested in Morgantown for a DUI.
Simms caught six passes a season ago for 95 yards. One of those grabs went for a touchdown.
"We have very high expectations for our student-athletes,” said head coach Dana Holgorsen in a statement released by the university, “and they know that how we represent this university is more important than their contribution on the field. While every case is unique and discipline imposed is based on varying factors, this suspension is warranted. It is my hope that Marcus works hard to fulfill his obligation as a member of our community and as a member of our football program.”
