Marshall drops tight contest with ODU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — Marshall lost for only the second time at home this season to an Old Dominion team who's undefeated on the road in Conference USA play.

The Herd (19-9, 10-5) fell at Cam Henderson Center to the Monarchs (22-5, 13-2) by a final, 84-79.

Marshall took the lead, 75-74, with 3:27 to play. A lead Old Dominion took back 23 seconds later and never again relinquished on its way to win number two over Marshall this season.

Jon Elmore recorded a double-double with 24 points and 11 assists. C.J. Burks scored 24 points, but additionally accounted for 6 of the team's 19 total turnovers.

Old Dominion also shot the ball 17 more times going 31 of 72 from the field. Marshall put away 30 of its 55 shots.

The Thundering Herd will have to wait in its attempt to get to 20 wins this season. It would be the second 20-win season under head coach Dan D'antoni.

Marshall will try again against Charlotte, Saturday at Cam Henderson Center.
