To college football programs and fans, National Signing Day is like Christmas Day. It is also one of the only days of the year fax machines across the country stay busy.

On Wednesday, Marshall University announced it was adding 24 student-athletes to its football program.

Marshall’s recruiting class is headlined by wide receiver Jaquan Webb and transfer quarterback Alex Thomson.

Webb, a 6-foot 2-inch receiver from Oxford High School in Oxford, Miss., is rated as a 4-star prospect by ESPN. Webb received scholarship offers from several other schools including Alabama, Louisville, Ole Miss, Oregon State, Arkansas State, Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe, Massachusetts, Middle Tennessee, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Tulane, and UAB.

Another Marshall signee that has drawn national attention is graduate transfer, Alex Thomson. Thomson is expected to have two years eligibility after transferring from Wagner College. Thomson chose to transfer to Marshall, choosing the Herd over Baylor and Tennessee.

Thomson will join an offense that will be returning nine starters from last season. In 2018, Marshall’s offense will feature a new quarterback after junior Chase Litton announced he was entering the NFL draft. The Herd will also have a new offensive coordinator, Tim Cramsey. Cramsey, who joins the Herd from Sam Houston State, was hired after the resignation of Bill Legg.

Marshall signed 13 offensive players and 10 defensive players, who will also have a new coordinator. After long-time defensive coordinator Chuck Heater left for a position at Maryland, Marshall promoted linebackers coach Adam Fuller to defensive coordinator.

In addition to signing Web and Thomson, Marshall’s recruiting class also features 11 three-star prospects.

In a release from Marshall, head coach Doc Holliday said the team has filled its offseason needs.

"Once again, we have filled our needs. We have recruited young men who are excited to represent this program and, as always, that’s where it starts,” Holliday said.
