As Spring Valley and Hurricane meet up in our Wendy’s Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week presented by Marshall Sports Medicine Institute, two students have been named the St. Mary’s Medical Center Scholar Athletes of the Week.

Mitchell Hall was named the St. Mary’s Medical Center Scholar Athlete of the Week for Spring Valley High School. Hall is a senior and is the kicker and punter for the Timberwolves’ football team.

After playing soccer for 12 years, Hall made the switch to football two years ago.

Hall said his two favorite subjects are chemistry and calculus.

He has not selected a college yet but said he plans to major in chemistry and then go to medical school and one day hopes to be neurologist.

Senior Kyle Casto was selected as St. Mary’s Medical Center Scholar Athlete of the Week for Hurricane High School.

Casto currently has a 4.3 grade point average. He said he has taken eight AP classes and is currently in three.

Casto is on the Hurricane swim team, cross country team, track team and competes in show choir. He also competes in Math Field Day.

The Hurricane senior is a National AP Scholar and a National Merit semifinalist. He hopes to be named a National Merit finalist this spring.

Casto hasn’t selected a college yet but said he has applied to universities across the county including, MIT and Georgia Tech.

Casto and Hall are now eligible to win the St. Mary’s Medical Center Scholar Athlete of the Year and a $5,000 scholarship.
