Quarterfinal match ups set for West Virginia high school football

The quarterfinal matchups have been set for West Virginia high school football.

In Class AAA, two games will be played on Friday with two more played Saturday:

Friday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m.:

No. 10 John Marshall at No. 2 Martinsburg

No. 6 Capital at No. 3 University

Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1:30 p.m.:

No. 12 Cabell Midland at No. 4 Spring Valley

Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m.:

No. 9 Hurricane at No. 1 Huntington

Top-seeded Huntington (11-0) started its postseason off with a 44-10 win over No. 16 South Charleston. The Highlanders's will be hosting the Hurricane Redskins (7-4) who upset No. 8 Hedgesville 52-21 in the first round of the playoffs.

No. 2 Martinsburg (11-0) continued its dominance with a 61-0 victory over Morgantown in the first round. The Bulldogs have been dominant in every phase of the game this season, scoring 57.4 points per game while only giving up 8.1 points per game. Martinsburg's average margin of victory this season is 49.1 points a game.

Capital (8-3) comes into the quarterfinals coming off a 63-21 victory over No. 11 Wheeling Park. University (11-0) defeated No. 14 Spring Mills 37-7 in the first round of the playoffs.


Like Class AAA, the AA quarterfinals will be split between Friday and Saturday:

Friday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m.:

No. 8 Liberty Harrison at No. 1 Mingo Central

No. 11 Winfield at No. 3 Bridgeport

Saturday, November 18 at 1:30 p.m.:

No. 5 Wayne at No. 4 Fairmont Senior

No. 7 Point Pleasant at No. 2 Bluefield

Mingo Central (11-0) is looking to defend its 2016 state title. The Miners defeated No. 16 Robert C. Byrd 76-40 in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Big Blacks of Point Plesant (9-2) will travel to Bluefield to take on the Beavers (11-0) for the second time this season. In week 7, Bluefield defeated Point Plesant 42-13.


The Class A quarterfinals feature just one Saturday game, with three games Friday night:

Friday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m.:

No. 10 Wheeling Central vs. No. 2 South Harrison

No. 11 Summers County at No. 3 Midland Trail

No. 5 St. Marys at No. 4 Tug Valley

Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1:30 p.m.:

No. 9 Sherman at No. 1 East Hardy
