Mountain East Conference: West Liberty and Wheeling Jesuit move on in men's play
The Northern Panhandle will be well-represented in the semifinal round of the Mountain East Conference Basketball Tournament.
On Thursday, defending women's champ Wheeling Jesuit won a quarterfinal round game over Shepherd.
On Friday, both West Liberty, the No. 3 seed, and Wheeling Jesuit, the 3 seed, moved on with men's quarterfinal round victories.
West Liberty fended off Glenville, 75-71, for a second straight year in the tournament, while Wheeling Jesuit easily took care of West Virginia Wesleyan, 90-63.
The two will collide tomorrow night. During the regular season West Liberty downed Wheeling Jesuit in two overtimes the first time they played with the Cards taking the second showdown in three extra sessions.
No. 1 seed Fairmont State met UC in the evening session of the quarterfinals and Shepherd took on Notre Dame.
The women's semifinals will have Wheeling Jesuit, the No. 2 seed, meeting No. 3 Virginia-Wise and No. 5 Fairmont takes on No. 8 UC.
The semifinals are Saturday and the finals are Sunday at the Charleston Civic Center Coliseum.
