High School Softball: History is served for GW's Lady Patriots

Kim Darby's Lady Patriots of GW won the school's first-ever sectional title on Wednesday evening with a 5-2 win over South Charleston.

Never before has GW made it to the West Virginia High School Girls State Softball Tournament.

In fact, the Lady Patriot program had never won a sectional title.

Until now, that is.

GW topped South Charleston Thursday night on the Lady Black Eagles home turf by a final of 5-2.

South Charleston, who earlier in the evening sidelined St. Albans, 2-1, was looking for the win to force a second and decisive game on Thursday in the Class AAA Region 3, Section 1 Tournament.

With the win, GW now moves on for the first-time ever to regional competition.
