High School Basketball: GW wins rivalry game with Capital

Matthew Cook (10) of GW gets set to drive to the basket against Capital on Friday Night. Cook had a game-high 27 in a win.

CHARLESTON (WCHS-TV/WVAH-TV) - It was all one could want at this time of year for high school basketball.

There were two Top 10 Class AAA teams colliding as Capital invaded the George Washington High Gymnasium to meet the Patriots.

There was a packed house.

There was much on the line as far as the Mountain State Athletic Conference and sectional positioning are concerned.

Oh, and the respective head coaches just happen to be father and son.

On this night, Rick Greene, the father, and his GW team got the best of Matt Greene's highly-talented Capital Cougars, 69-62.

GW owned a lead of 15 in the third quarter only to see the Cougars come back and tie the game.

Matthew Cook of GW led all scorers with 27.

-Another game in the Kanawha Valley saw South Charleston top Riverside. E.J. Phillips scored 46 in the victory.
