Game 5: Capital blows out Parkersburg South on its way to state semifinals

The Capital Cougars moved on to the second round of the Class AAA boy’s state basketball tournament with a dominating win over Parkersburg South.

No. 1 Capital (22-4) picked up its 22nd win of the season with an 85-65 first round victory over No. 8 Parkersburg South (14-12).

The Cougars were led by Anthony Pittman, who notched a double-double. Pittman scored 26 points in just 27 minutes and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Leondre Rogers Scored 16 points and dished out 9 assists for the Cougars. Capital’s C.J. Wilder (13) and Kerry Martin (12) also scored in double-figures.

Capital shot 56 percent from the field, while holding the Patriots to just 34 percent shooting.

Parkersburg South’s Shane Snide led all scorers, scoring 27 points in 26 minutes. He also pulled down 11 rebounds, 9 of which were on the offensive end.

The Cougars now move on to the semifinals where they will take on the winner of No. 4 Morgantown and No. 5 George Washington at 5:30 Friday evening.
