Game 17: Fairmont Senior advances to Class AA championship in defeat of Miners

Top-seeded Fairmont Senior advanced to the Class AA championship Friday night with a 62-44 win over the Mingo Central Miners at the Charleston Civic Center.

The defending champion Polar Bears took a 28-21 lead into the half after trailing earlier in the second quarter. The Miners led 17-11 at the end of the first quarter, but scored just four points to Fairmont's 17 in the second period.

Fairmont was able to ride the halftime lead to the victory over the No. 5 Miners. In an impressive shooting display, the Polar Bears shot 46 percent from the floor (23-49) and 50 percent from three (7-14).

The Polar Bears won the rebounding margin 62-44 and had 14 assists to five for the Miners.

Three players scored in double figures for the Polar Bears. Tavon Horton and Zyon Dobbs each scored 13, while Jalen Bridges added 11.

Jeremy Dillon scored a game-high 18 points for Mingo Central. He also grabbed eight rebounds.

The Polar Bears will face No. 3 Chapmanville at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the deciding contest.
