Game 20: Wheeling Central win Class A state championship

No. 2 Wheeling Central upset No. 1 Huntington St. Joe to win its third state championship in school history.

The Maroon Knights (25-2) trailed for just 4 minutes in their 67-62 win over the Irish (19-8) in the Class A state title game Saturday at the Charleston Civic Center.

The Maroon Knights shot 51 percent from the floor and were even better from long range shooting 56 percent from beyond the 3-point line.

Wheeling Central had four players score in double-figures and were led by Hannah White who scored 18 points and had 8 rebounds. Kaylee Reinbeau finished the title game with a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Taylor Duplaga scored 13 and Eden Gainer scored 12 for the Maroon Knights.

St. Joe, the defending Class A champion, was playing in its eleventh consecutive championship game. The Irish had won eight of the last nine Class A titles.

Dena Jarrells led the way for St. Joe, scoring 17 points. She also dished out 9 assists. Bailee Adkins scored 16 for the Irish and Hannah Roberts added 12.
