Hurricane wins Wendy's Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week over Spring Valley
HURRICANE, WV (WCHS/WVAH) —
The Hurricane Redskins used a potent aerial attack to defeat Spring Valley on their homecoming in our Wendy's Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week presented by the Marshall Sports Medicine Institute.
Early in the first quarter Isaac Howard capped off a long Spring Valley drive with 3 yard touchdown run to put the Timberwolves up 7-0.
Hurricane wouldn't be down for long. Less than a minute later, the Redskins had an answer. Quarterback Nathan Roy dropped back and aired it out down the sideline and found Dakota Williams who finished off the 79 yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7.
Later in the first quarter, Roy found Williams again, this time from 37 yards out to put the Redskins up 14-7.
Halloween is still a month away, but in the second quarter, Hurricane reached into its bag of tricks. Roy handed off to Christian Hill who then pitched it to Curon Cordon who took it 20 yards on the reverse play for the score to put the Redskins up 21-7.
Late second quarter, Spring Valley was trying to put a field goal on the board before the half but Hurricane's Cameron Kimble blocked the field and then recovered the loose ball and took it to the Spring Valley 10, setting up a Redskins field goal. Hurricane led 24-7 at the half.
Facing a 17 point halftime deficit, Spring Valley would not quit. On the Timberwolves' first play of the second half, Owen Porter took a handoff and raced 69 yard to cut Hurricanes lead to 24-14.
On the Timberwolves next drive, quarterback Will Adkins droped back on 4th down and found Derek Johnson who was brought down just short of the goal line. On the very next play, Johnson lined up under center, put his head down and powered it into the endzone. Spring Valley was then down just 27-21.
Hurricane would again answer with the Roy-Williams connection.
Roy dropped back and found Williams deep across the middle for a 58 yard touchdown to put the Redskins up 34-21 late in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Hurricane added some insurance with its final score of the game. Christian Hill took an inside handoff at the 13, bounced it to the outside and scored to put the Redskins up 41-31.
With touchdown catches of 79, 37 and 67 yards, Hurricane's Dakota Williams was named the Five Star Chevrolet Player of the Game.
