CHARLESTON, W.Va.
West Virginia would limit PROMISE college scholarships and set future energy source benchmarks under measures advanced by the Legislature as it wrapped up its regular session.

Saturday's bills included key items from Gov. Joe Manchin's legislative agenda.

The PROMISE measure would limit scholarships to $4,750 annually, but allow for increases later. Manchin had proposed to cap the merit-based scholarship at $4,500.

Another bill would require 25 percent of all electricity sold statewide in 2025 to come from renewable and alternative energy sources.

While the 60-day session ends at midnight, lawmakers plan to return May 26 to finish the budget. Manchin and lawmakers agreed to delay action on the budget because of the state's growing recession.
