4-year-old W.Va. boy shot, mother arrested
July 03, 2009 6:47 PM

A Charleston police detective says a 4-year-old boy apparently shot himself in the leg at a home where two other children were present and the boy's mother has been charged with a felony.

Sgt. Steve Cooper says the shooting occurred at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The child was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery. Cooper says the wound didn't appear to be life threatening.

Cooper says the mother, 24-year-old Hannah Workman of Charleston, has been charged with gross neglect. She was being held Saturday night at the South Central Regional Jail.

The detective says police also are looking for a 16-year-old male who may have been in the house at the time of the shooting.
