USA Update

Rick Lord An explosive situation at a school in Hawaii, a super snowman in Indiana, and a penny saved is a hundred thousand dollars earned in California on this USA Update

January 31, 2014
Reporter: Rick Lord

Hawaii... a high school was put on lockdown after a small bomb exploded outside the auditorium. It appears to have been a homemade "bottle bomb" that went off during recess. Police and fire officials are investigating the incident, but so far, no injuries have been reported. About 1250 students attend the high school...

Indiana... an 18-foot tall snowman towers over a neighborhood in Speedway. The brothers who live here have built numerous giant snowmen over the years, but they say this one is their best. The body and head were made from a trio of igloos, the nose is a street cone, rakes are the arms and the hat is a bucket. In case you're wondering, the brothers are about 100 feet short of beating the Guinness world record, which was a 122-foot snow-woman built in Maine in 2008...

California... a single penny could mean $100,000 to help the homeless in San Diego. A man recently sold his coin collection to a shop for $2700, but the dealer then called him back to say one penny was probably worth six figures. The men will auction off the penny in April, then donate $100,000 to a charity benefiting the homeless. And that's our two cents on this USA Update.
