LUBBOCK, Texas (May 17, 2014) – The West Virginia University baseball team fell 4-0 to Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon at Rip Griffin Park in the 2014 regular-season finale.

The Mountaineers finished the regular season with an overall record of 27-24 and 9-14 in Big 12 play. West Virginia, however, is currently riding a seven-game losing streak.

West Virginia finished with seven hits and stranded seven runners on base. Senior Michael Constantini and junior right fielder Brad Johnson had two hits apiece in the losing effort.

Adam Kirsch gave Texas Tech a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a lead-off home run over the left field fence, his second solo blast in as many days. Kirsch then scored to make it 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly to center field by Tim Proudfoot. Kirsch was plated for the third time on a Proudfoot double play in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 3-0.

Bryant Burleson added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh after hitting a triple to the right field wall. Tyler Neslony plated Burleson on a single up the middle.

Five Texas Tech batters had two hits apiece. Kirsch went 2-for-3 with one home run, one RBI and three runs.

Texas Tech starter Dylan Dusek (6-0) stayed undefeated, throwing 6.2 shutout innings and allowing five hits. Dusek struck out one and walked three.

The loss went to junior left-hander John Means (6-2) in 6.1 innings of work. Means gave up four runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

The Mountaineers now head to the 2014 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, Okla. West Virginia will take on Kansas in the first game of the tournament on Wednesday, May 21 at 10 a.m. The game will be televised on affiliates of Fox College Sports, while links to live stats are available on WVUsports.com. The radio broadcast will be on selectaffiliates of the Mountaineers Sports Network from IMG College.
