Day two of the 2013 West Virginia Girls State High School Basketball Tournament featured four Class AA quarterfinals and two more Class AAA games.

The early session saw Nicholas County and Bridgeport posting victories in the Class AA contests while Logan advanced on to Friday's semifinals in Class AAA.

After a day of blowouts on Wednesday, Nicholas County, the No. 3 seed, and No. 6 seed North Marion staged an epic battle in the first game on Thursday. Shealyn Shafer had 16 points, 15 rebounds and six blocked shots to lead the Lady Grizzlies to the school's first-ever State Tournament win, 47-42.

North Marion, which won three straight Class AA titles from 2009-2011, was led in scoring by Megan Haller with 17.

The afternoon Class AA game saw Bridgeport's Miki Glenn explode for 36 points as the Lady Indians, last season's Class AAA runner-up, defeated Lincoln, 54-34. Glenn also added 11 rebounds for the No. 2 Indians.

Sandwiched between the Class AAA games was Logan's 77-66 win over Princeton. Shayna Gore scorched the nets for 36 points to lead Logan to its historic first win in State Tournament play. The No. 5 Wildcats improved to 16-9.

The evening session winners included defending state champ Westside and Fairmont Sr. in Class AA along with Parkersburg South in Class AAA.

Kaden Whaley scored 22 points to lead Fairmont Senior its 72-56 win over Clay County. Fairmont Senior heads to the semifinals for the first time since 2001 when the school was Class AAA.

Hope Lester had 26 points as Westside downed PikeView, 68-41, to take a step toward a second straight title.

Keya Bartlett scored 30 points as Parkersburg South beat Hedgesville 67-39 in the girls Class AAA quarterfinals Thursday night. South goes to the semifinals for the first time since 2010.

Meanwhile, boys regional action continued across the great state of West Virginia. In Class A, Charleston Catholic, Tug Valley, Wheeling Central, Greater Beckley Christian, Magnolia, Tucker County, Notre Dame and Buffalo all earned berths in next week's State Tournament.

Also, South Charleston, Martinsburg and Washington wrapped up the final three berths for Class AAA.

Three Class AA games will be played Friday night to set the 24-team field for next week's 100th event, which begins on Wednesday.
