Former WVU basketball great and Logan coaching legend Willie Akers was injured on Wednesday following a fall at the Charleston Civic Center Coliseum.
Akers, 75, is hospitalized with a fractured vertebrae and nose.
According to Logan High head coach Mark Hatcher, Akers is in critical condition but stable. He says the next 24 to 48 hours are serious for the basketball icon.
Akers played on WVU's national runner-up team in 1959.
He later won over 400 games as head coach and Logan and led the Wildcats to four state titles. A
