WVU thumps Syracuse 34-13:
Four different ball carriers scored touchdowns and Jarrett Brown was an efficient 22 of 30 for 244 yards and a TD to lead West Virginia to a 34-13 victory over Syracuse Saturday afternoon in newly named Ernie Davis Legends Field in Syracuse, N.Y. The Mountaineers improve to 4-1 overall while earning their first Big East win of 2009. Marshall tops Tulane 31-10: Brian Anderson completed 18-of-22 passes for 207 yards as the Marshall University football team dominated Tulane, 31-10, in Conference USA action Saturday at the Louisiana Superdome. Darius Marshall was held to a season low 98 yards rushing but did score 2 TD's. Marshall improves to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in C-USA. Elsewhere in Division I football: -Ohio State scored 2 defensive touchdowns and another special teams TD in a 31-13 win over Wisconsin. -Kentucky lost to South Carolina 28-26, their 10th straight loss to the Gamecocks. UK failed to convert on a two point attempt late in the ballgame that would have tied it up. -Ohio defeated Akron in the Zips 2009 Homecoming game. Ohio's defense forced 5 turnovers in the victory. WVIAC football: -The University of Charleston remains undefeated after a 59-43 victory at Seton Hill. Derante Hunter had a hand in 5 TD's- 3 TD passes to Andre Higgins. Aaron Higdon ran for a career high 143 yards as UC improves to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the WVIAC. -WV State lost at West Liberty 52-30. The Yellowjackets had no answer for Hilltopper QB Zach Amedro who threw 5 TD passes in the victory. State is now 1-3 in the WVIAC and 2-4 overall. -Glenville beat Concord 28-27. -Fairmont State lost to #25 UNC Pembroke 38-7. -Shepherd beat West Virginia Wesleyan 45-6. Mid-South Football: -WVU Tech lost to Belhaven College 17-7 in their 2009 Homecoming game. Tech was playing without QB Michael Scott who is sidelined due to injury. The Golden Bears haven't won a Homecoming contest since 2007.
