Marshall 17
Marshall running back Darius Marshall ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns but it wasn't enough as the Herd lost to East Carolina 24-17. Brian Anderson was stopped short on 4th and 1 in the 4th quarter, giving the ball back to East Carolina. After forcing the Pirates to punt with under two minutes to play, the Herd had one last chance. Marshall started the drive on its own 7 yard line and on third down Anderson hit Cody Slate for 22 yard gain. However, two plays later ECU linebacker Jeremy Chambliss intercepted Anderson sealing the victory for the Pirates. Marshall loses it's first conference game while the Pirates improve to 2-0 in C-USA.
In other Division 1 football:
-Kentucky had no answer for Alabama RB Mark Ingram who rushed for a game-high 140 yards. The third ranked Tide beats UK 38-20.
-Ohio beat Bowling Green in a wild one 44-37. Chris Garrett had 120 yards rushing and two TD's for the Bobcats as they open MAC play with a victory.
In the West Virginia Conference:
-UC thumped Fairmont State 37-7 keeping it's unbeaten record in tact.
-WV State won it's first conference game with a 23-17 victory over Seton Hill.
-West Liberty topped Glenville 29-17.
-West Virginia Wesleyan lost at Liberty 45-7.
-Shepherd beat Concord by a field goal 34-31
In the Mid-South Conference:
-WVU Tech was shutout at #18 Union 31-0.
