He is one of West Virginia Tech's all-time greats. After an outstanding career on the basketball court in the '60s for coaching legend Neil Baisi, Richwood native Mike Barrett went on to earn a Gold Medal with the USA Olympic Team in 1968.
His days playing hoops didn't end there. Barrett would play from 1969-73 in the old American Basketball Association for the Washington Capitols, Virginia Squires and San Diego Conquistadors.
Barrett was named to the 1970 ABA All-Rookie Team.
Barrett was the keynote speaker at the 13th annual WVU Tech Golden Bear Athletic Club Reverse Raffle on June 30 in Charleston.
While he lived in Illinois, Webster Springs and Richwood growing up, fittingly he was born in Montgomery - the home of Tech.
