Mark Martin It was my grandfather - the late George Russell Heiskell (most people pronounced the name like "high school") who told my parents they should let me try T-Ball. They did, and that's how my involvement in sports was launched.

I continued playing competitive athletics until I was 21 years old as a football player at Marietta College, where I earned my B.A. in Radio and Television in 1983. While in college I started doing a lot of work for both newspapers and radio. My first shot in TV came as a part-timer in 1984.

There's nothing quite like covering sports for a living. I love all aspects of this business from anchoring to reporting to play-by-play to sideline work to writing to editing to shooting. It truly is a labor of love.

Hands down the greatest part, though, has been the abundance of friendships made down through the years.

I appreciate all of you watching our sports coverage on WCHS-TV and WVAH-TV. We strive to bring you all of the latest happenings locally and state-wide and along the way introducing you to those involved.

I love hearing from people and I'm great about responding. Give me a call, write me a letter or send an e-mail.
