Police recover Ohio artifacts, key to city's past

UHRICHSVILLE, Ohio
State and local police digging into the mystery of 51 clay artifacts stolen from a museum recovered 40 of the pieces along with some civic pride.



Police in Uhrichsville in eastern Ohio teamed with agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to track down the items stolen in February.

Burglars twice hit the Uhrichsville Clay Museum and took the salt-glazed clay artifacts, dating from the city's heyday as a thriving pottery production center.

Shortly after agents visited several antique shops in eastern Ohio, someone deposited 40 of the items under the carport of a local church, each piece wrapped in newspaper.

The museum plans to reopen Wednesday with the artifacts back on display.
