from Eyewitness News Online Nursing home inspections ex-chief appeals firing July 19, 2008 4:33 PM LOUISVILLE, Ky.
A former state official in charge of nursing home inspections has appealed his firing over allegations of misconduct. Among the accusations against Moses Young, a former assistant director for Cabinet for Health and Family Services, is that he lived in a home provided by the president of a nursing home company. Young's attorney said his client denies the allegations, and appealed his termination to the state Personnel Board on Thursday. Cabinet officials say Young could not document he paid rent for the Lexington home where he's lived since August 2005, according to a May 21 letter terminating him. The letter also cites improper contact between Young and Ralph L. Stacey Jr., president of Garrard Convalescent Home in Covington before, during and after nursing home inspections _ which are supposed to be done on a surprise basis. Stacey is president of Stacey Enterprises Inc., which owns the town house where Young lived. Records don't show where Young lives now. A spokesman for state Attorney General Jack Conway said the case has been referred to his office, which is looking into the matter.
