from Eyewitness News Online Senate Panel Approves $75 Million for VA Hospital July 17, 2008 7:31 PM LOUISVILLE, Ky.
A Senate panel agreed Thursday to provide $75 million for the new Veterans Affairs hospital in Louisville, $30 million more than was alloted in a House spending bill. The Courier-Journal reported the increase was requested by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and would be used for design work. Last month, a House panel approved $45 million at the request of Rep. John Yarmuth, D-3rd District. The $45 million would be used for land acquisition and site preparation in both bills. McConnell s $30 million addition will be subject to negotiations between the House and Senate. The new facility, expected to cost $700 million, would replace the existing 57-year-old VA Hospital in Louisville. It is scheduled to open in 2013.
