YOU NEED TO KNOW for July 20, 2009 from Eyewitness News Online New Treatment in Breast Cancer Prevention World's First Breast Ultrasound System
Mammography has long been the standard for detecting breast cancer in its early stages, however dense breast tissue can make tumors difficult to find. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, women with dense breast tissue are five times more likely to develop breast cancer. Now a new type of ultrasound treatment, the Acuson S2000 Automated Breast Volume Scanner or ABVS, may help find what traditional mammography misses. In fact, a study published in 2008 found that adding a screening ultrasound examination to routine mammography revealed 28 percent more cancers than mammography alone. ABVS is now FDA approved.
YMCA Exercise Video Free Video Helps People With Arthritis
Do your bones and joints ache to the point you can no longer exercise? Well, now there's a free exercise video that may just help heal that pain. Charleston YMCA fitness director Cindy Boggs says the video focuses on stretching, balance, low-impact aerobics and strength training. She says the video could help people suffering from arthritis and osteoporosis lead more active lives
The West Virginia Bureau for Public Health says West Virginia has the highest rate of adults with arthritis in the country at 35 percent. The exercises are approved by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. I
