Victim of Clendenin Shooting Identified

CLENDENIN, W.Va. (Dave Benton) -- A man in Clendenin shot and killed another man Sunday, saying he was in fear for his own life.

What was normally a quiet neighborhood took a turn Sunday, when police responded to a call that a man shot and killed another man for chasing him with an axe.

It happened in the 700 block of Robinson Street in Clendenin around 12:30 p.m..

“They knew each other through family relations,” Cpt. Greg Young, of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, said.

Police identified the man shot as Robert Parsons II from Clendenin. Deputies are not releasing the name of the shooter just yet.

“Information will be presented to the prosecutor's office and they'll make charges,” Young said.

Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies spent several hours on scene investigating the fatal shooting.

“Eyewitness News spoke with a neighbor who says if it was self-defense, he would have tried to protect himself, too.


“I don't think anything should happen to him,” he said. “It's self-defense. I'd do the same thing.”

Deputies are questioning several witnesses, and said the shooter is cooperating with the investigation.




CLENDENIN, W.Va. (Kera Mashek) Deputies have now identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Clendenin Sunday.

The person shot was 38-year-old Robert Parsons, II.

Metro 911 had received calls alleging Parsons was chasing another man with an axe, and that person shot Parsons.

Parsons was declared dead at the scene.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office is investigating the matter. Throughout the investigation, detectives have been consulting and informing assistant prosecuting attorneys of Kanawha County.

No arrests have been made in the incident.

Dispatchers say a man called 911 and said he had shot another man who had been chasing him with an axe.

Dispatchers say the victim was shot in the chest. He died from his injuries.
