CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jeff Morris) -- West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant is asking state residents to sign an online petition and join her in calling on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to post online results of testing done on the water supply.

Tennant wrote a letter to Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the CDC, asking the agency to make the testing results easily accessible and understandable for the 300,000 people who had their water contaminated by a chemical leak on Jan. 9, according to a news release from Tennant’s office.

“West Virginians deserve these answers, and we are not going to stop until we get them,” Tennant said. “By signing this online petition, we are all sending a very clear message that we aren’t going to just sit idly by while these very serious questions remain unanswered. We want to know if our water is safe and how that determination was reached. West Virginians deserve to know if what is coming out of their faucet is going to make their family sick.”

The online petition is available by clicking the link at the top of the Secretary of State’s website here
