FOSTERVILLE, W.Va. – (Stefano DiPietrantonio, Bethany Simmons)

50 families woke-up to no gas and no heat Tuesday morning. They’re breathing a lot easier and will be sleeping a lot easier too, knowing they won’t have to spend the night, in one of the two emergency shelters, set-up by the Racine Firefighters and the Boone County EMS.

The outage in Fosterville happened around 7am and came after an interruption in service from the supplier for Dominion Hope, which is based in Clarksburg, Media Relations Specialist Bob Fulton said.

Warming shelters were set up at the Racine Volunteer Fire Department and the Orgas Community Center in Boone County.

Dominion shut the gas off, when a regulator in the feed system failed and caused the pressure in the lines to drop. The gas was off for nearly eight hours. Once repairs were done, crews had to go to each house affected in Fosterville, check the lines, then re-light the pilot lights.

"It's unusual for this to happen because the system is really designed to work in situations like this. But every once in a while you'll have an issue that will pop up and you have to take care of it right away. In working with the Boone County EMS, it was so much easier, I'm sure, to get the information out and let people know they had some recourse, that they could go to those warming centers."

The gas company said luckily, the heat in those homes stayed in long enough, there were no reports of anyone having trouble with burst pipes or any other difficulties. Dominion Hope applauded the Boone County EMS and the Racine Volunteer Firefighters for getting those warming shelters open so fast!
