Winter weather swept the nation Thursday night, including the Eyewitness News viewing region.

Problems piled up in Huntington, with the icy roads blamed for a multi-car crash on Norway Avenue near Spring Hill Cemetery.

The road was a complete mess, as people attempted to make their way up the well-traveled roadway.

Three cars collided together in the minor accident. One police cruiser couldn't make it up the hill to respond, and had to request for a salt truck.

It was quite a sight for people living on the hill.

"I’ve seen cars sliding,” Andrew Smith of Huntington said. “I’ve seen people slipping and falling into mud puddles. It’s hard to believe some have their kids out here. Pretty cold.”

Eighth Avenue in Huntington was shut down because of ice, but has since reopened.

It was one of the more icy road ways.

Road crews were out in full force, trying to get things ready for the morning commute.

Snow was also sticking to roadways in Kanawha County.

Kanawha Metro 911 reported black ice in the following locations:
- 4695 Washington St. W., Cross Lanes
- 4600 block of Big Tyler Road, Cross Lanes
- Doc Bailey Road and Nightingale Lane, Cross Lanes
- Cabin Creek Road and Wealthy Acres Road, Wealthy acres.
