The Kanawha County Board of Education on Tuesday selected Dennis Davis to fill a seat that was left vacant when longtime member Bill Raglin passed away.

Board members voted 4-0 on Davis' selection to the seat.

A resident of Institute, Davis has decades of experience in education. His term on the board expires June 30, 2015.

On Thursday, the board introduced a motion to discuss potential candidates in an executive session. Each board member came to the meeting with a list of names of people who have expressed interest in job. Only one board member made his list public, while the remaining members insisted on discussing their lists in executive session.

Raglin passed away Nov. 25, opening up a vacancy. Raglin served on the Kanawha County board since 1994.
