Montgomery , Kanawha County , West Virginia

Police said the elderly owner of a Montgomery Dairy Queen was attacked Tuesday, and robbed of thousands of dollars.

Officers are seeking help to find the suspect, who not only took off with the cash, but left the 74-year-old man injured.

“I didn't know what to think, honestly,” Mark Robson, of the Montgomery Dairy Queen, said. “My heart dropped, my stomach turned.”

Tuesday night, somebody attacked the owner, Ron Manning, and stole $3,000, money he was taking for a night deposit.

“How could somebody do something like that?” Robson said. “Just heartless, disrespectful.”

During the attack, Manning, who's in his 70s, fell and broke his hip.

Workers said it looks like, according to video surveillance, the suspect was hiding behind dumpster, and when the owner came out with money in hand, that's when he was attacked.

“I feel like somebody either stalked him, or it was somebody who knew information on what his routine was,” Shante Wright, of the Dairy Queen, said. “It's a just a shame people do stuff like this. He's 74 years old.”

Workers suspect the person responsible could be a former employee, but, so far, nobody has been arrested.

“Breaks my heart,” Wright said. “It should break anybody's heart, that people could do anything to a man his age. He's a sweet guy.”

Manning had hip surgery and is said to be recovering well. As for the suspect, he is said to be white and of thin build. No other details are available on his appearance.
The family is offering a $2,000 reward to anyone who's able to give information that will lead to an arrest in the case.
