An arrest was made Wednesday for a violent fight in Lincoln County between brothers that involved a sword and a gun.

Police say 31-year-old Jeffery Turley attacked his brother with a samurai sword, cutting him several times in the chest and neck, Friday night at their home in Ranger.

Jeff Turley is facing serious charges including attempted murder, child neglect, assault during a felony, wanton endangerment, brandishing a deadly weapon, domestic assault, domestic battery, and battery on an EMS worker. Police say he pulled out a samurai sword--and cut his brother Chris Kirkendoll with it several times.

Eyewitness News asked, "Why did you attack your brother?"

"Drunk. We got into a fight," Turley said.

And Turley's brother wasn't the only victim during that fight. Court documents accuse Turley of pulling out a shotgun and firing it, while threatening other family members in front of several young children, including Turley's own newborn daughter. Turley says he was so upset about what happened, he ran out of the house, and tried to kill himself.

" I shot myself right here in the stomach with a 20-gauge. I was going to take my life because I didn't think my brother was going to make it to the hospital. I figured he'd bleed to death by the time we got him there. So I tried to kill myself because I figured if he couldn't live, there was no sense in me living either," said Turley.

But the brothers both survived.

As emergency workers responded to the scene, court documents say Turley also attacked an EMS worker and spit in their face. It's something Turley doesn't even remember,

" I apologize to the EMS worker because I don't remember doing it. But as far as my brother goes...he wouldn't apologize to me, but he knows deep down I'm sorry," Turley said.

Turley says he'll now use his time behind bars to get clean and try to work things out with his family.

He's now being held in the Western Regional Jail on a $300,000 cash-only bond. His preliminary hearing will be held within 10 days.
