Leaving Early

Whether you're headed cross-country, like Earon Rein, who's headed from Chicago, Illinois to Williamsburg, VA for Thanksgiving, or a few hours to your Thanksgiving destination, the threat of snow in the forecast was enough to have these travelers packing their bags a day early.

Kelly Preston stopped for a quick break at the Welcome Center on I-64 in Huntington during her trip from Paintsville to Covington Virginia. "Well we just decided to come out early because of the bad weather that's supposed to be coming in tomorrow, so hopefully we won't get caught in any snow or anything," she said.

Preston is taking her children, Megan and Ethan to see their dad for the holiday.

AAA estimates about 39 million people traveling by automobile this week and the heaviest travel day is most likely Wednesday, so leaving a day early has proved to have some perks.

"So far traffic's been pretty good, no accidents, so so far so good," said Rein.

Preston is glad they changed their travel plans. "We have to make the best of it when it's this kind of weather," she said.

If you do have to wait to hit the road, here's some advice from a fellow road-tripper. Rein said, "Start early and take your time."
