Huntington , Cabell County , West Virginia

Some people who rely on natural gas heat for gas in Huntington spent a chilly night without service.

Kenny Johnson was one of the 700 Mountaineer Gas customers who went 48 hours without heat. "Early this morning it was 35 degrees, the same as it was outside. It was very cold."

Johnson and others who live near Rt. 10 in Huntington lost their gas due to low pressure on the lines. Bad timing since it was one of the coldest night of the season so far. Johnson said, "To stay warm we wore a lot of clothes and it was very cold in here that was for sure. I had a little electric space heater and that helped a lot."

Johnson's neighbor, Leta White, came to the rescue. Once her gas came on, she shared her space heater with the Johnsons. "When something happens and you can help your neighbor out, well, we like to help our neighbors out. We'll take care of him and know he'll take care of us."

Most households have their gas back, but they have to home for crews to re-eignite pilot lights. Kenny Johnson had to stay home from work to let crews into his house to ignite the pilot light."

Leta White says when something like this happens, it makes you thankful for utilities. "We do take utilities for granted, we don't realize how much you miss them until they're disrupted."
