Washington, D.C.

The FBI continues to search for John Doe 27 who the FBI said may be involved in child exploitation and the sexual abuse of a minor.

Now the agency has issued a follow up statement thanking media outlets across the nation for publicizing the information.

"It is now believed that tips generated from the November 2013, publicity campaign have led to the identification and location (in the Midwest region of the USA) of the man in the photographs known as John Doe 27," according to a news release from the FBI.

"As of this time, no arrest warrants have been issued or served. Based upon the progress of this investigation, the FBI has determined that no additional publicity of these images is necessary. No further comments will be made as the investigation remains ongoing, however the FBI wishes to express its gratitude to the public for their vigilance and assistance in this case.”

No additional information about the investigation could be released at this time.

Eyewitness News shared the story and images on our Facebook page earlier this week.

The FBI is asking for help from the public to identify a suspect the agency said may be involved in child exploitation and the sexual abuse of a minor.

The suspect, who the FBI refers to as John Doe 27, is described as a white male, likely between the ages of 40 and 50, with brown hair, graying sideburns and a bald spot, according to a release from the FBI.

John Doe 27 is believed to wear glasses and a ring on the ring finger of his right hand.

Investigators said that based on audio taken from video files associated with John Doe 27, it appears as though he speaks with a southern accent and refers to himself as "Jimmy."

The images that accompany this article were found on the Internet, according to the news release from the FBI. You can submit a tip.

If you have any information that could help investigators, call a Crimes Against Children investigator at your local FBI office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate.
