The kids went going door-to-door in search of treats Thursday, but they were not the only ones out and about for Halloween.
Police were patrolling the streets making sure the tricksters didn't get into too much trouble.
In St. Albans, a trunk or treat was held along the new and improved Dick Henderson Memorial Bridge. The Nitro Antique Auto Club had their vehicles parked and their trunks open with plenty of candy.
The bridge officially opens Friday afternoon. A special ribbon cutting ceremony is planned and the bands from both Nitro and St Albans High Schools will perform during the event.
The trunk or treat event wrapped up at 7 p.m .
The city of Huntington didn’t let a little rain put a damper on its Halloween spirits.
The city has teamed up with Kindred Communications for the past several years to put on a safe trick or treat. It is usually held between city hall and the Cabell County Courthouse, but the weather moved the party indoors to the Big Sandy Superstore Arena.
Hundreds of kids were dressed in their Halloween best. The event was set to wrap up at 8 p.m.
In Kenova, the party got started a little early.
Over 300 students at Kenova Elementary wore their best Halloween costumes and had a parade through town. The school has done this for over a decade as part of their Writing and Fitness program. The students write about their costumes and then walk a mile during the parade. The Deidre Farley, the principal at the school, said it is one of their most anticipated events.
"It’s built up over a month,” she said. “The students look forward to this day more than any other day. We like to get the parents involved. They help get the students decorated."
