Police said a third person has been arrested after a Jackson County heroin bust.
Police arrested Dezirae Rexroad of Ravenswood.
She is the third person involved in a family heroin operation.
Earlier this week, Cameron Rexroad and Robert Zaine Barker were arrested after police said they have been investigating the Rexroads since this summer for selling heroin to confidential informants.
Several of the buys were also caught on camera and will be used as evidence against them.
A family heroin business is busted up in Jackson County as several arrests are made, but a suspect remains on the run.
Robert Zaine Barker and Cameron Lynn Rexroad were arrested based on an investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, deputies said. A third person, Dezirae Rexroad, of Ravenswood is being sought.
"We've been buying heroin from these two individuals for quite some time now," explains Jackson County Sheriff Tony Boggs.
Using confidential informants, and hidden cameras, deputies say they've been investigating the Rexroads since this summer. They are brother and sister.
A criminal complaint in Jackson County Magistrate Court said that during the summer and early fall months this year, an officer become involved in a heroin distribution investigation involving the brother-sister tandem of the Rexroads. Five separate heroin purchases were made from the brother and sister – two from Dezirae Rexroad and three from Cameron Rexroad – during the period, the complaint said.
Deputies also obtained a search warrant at a camping trailer occupied by Cameron Rexroad and Barker. Inside, they said, they found black tar heroin, scales and a large sum of currency. The complaint said Cameron Rexroad said that he had sold heroin a handful of times, including Oct. 23 when a criminal investigator purchased heroin from Barker and Cameron Rexroad at the camping trailer. Cameron Rexroad and Barker weighed out the heroin for distribution, the complaint said.
Barker is charged with one count of delivery of a controlled substance. Cameron Rexroad faces three counts on the same charge.
Boggs attributes the increase in heroin to several things besides the availability and it's price.
"We have 40 miles of interstate here in Jackson County and we border the Ohio River with a bridge to Ravenswood. A tremendous amount of our comes from Ohio," says the sheriff.
"Everyday you know, I'm out walking the dog early every morning, and it's scary," says Avis Turner, a neighbor of one of the suspects.
"I think we really need help," Turner says.
"We'll continue to try and make a dent in this," says Boggs.
The Ravenswood Police Department also participated in the investigation.
