A West Virginia University student has been arrested in connection with a car flipping incident that happened last month.
Kevin James Wheeler, 18, of White Hall, Md., was arrested Wednesday, according to a news release from Morgantown police.
Meanwhile, a warrant has been issued for another person who is suspected of being involved in the incident.
Police are seeking William Schwab, 18, a University of South Carolina student from Sparks Glencoe, Md. Both Wheeler and Schwab are being charged with felony destruction of property, WVU Police Chief Bob Roberts said.
The incident happened in the WVU parking area 5 located next to University Avenue following WVU's win over Oklahoma State on Sept. 28.
The Monongalia County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has agreed to extradite Schwab as a reflection of the seriousness associated with this type of criminal behavior, the release said. The vehicle damage estimate reportedly $6,000.
University police investigators spent more than 100 hours working this case. They shared a photo on Twitter that was posted on Instagram, showing two young women standing by the flipped over vehicle. Roberts said that without student, alumni and public input, the department would not have been able to solve this case.
"This highlights our community’s zero tolerance level for this type of criminal behavior," Roberts said, "and we truly appreciate all the support we received from the university community on our investigation."
If convicted, the two men could face a $2,500 fine and up to 10 years in prison.
