A Huntington man was taken to jail after he allegedly went on a rampage inside a local church.
And while he left behind quite a mess, church members hope there's a lesson to be learned from what happened.
All are welcome at St. St. Paul Lutheran Church in Huntington, but on Saturday morning someone took it a little too far.
Police arrested David Thompson and charged him with breaking and entering, after he allegedly broke through a glass door with a cinder block, barricaded himself on the second floor in a church office and started chucking things out the window.
Police eventually got him out of the building and took him to jail.
David Vickers, of Huntington, helped clean up the mess.
"It’s kind of crazy kind of creepy,” he said. “But we are in a world where things like that happen. Everyone is vulnerable."
Cindy Crigger lives next door, and said an increase in break-ins have got her worried.
“I'm concerned for the safety of my home and my vehicle, if this can happen at a church," she said.
But the church is actually using this weekend's incident as a teachable moment.
Sunday's sermon was a lesson on forgiveness.
"We have to replace a few things but we are praying that he gets on a different path,” one member said.
In fact, for the man accused, the members said he would be welcome there.
Services were held as normal at the church on Sunday.
