A new non-profit organization in Charleston is hoping to encourage the community to take strides toward leading a healthier life.
The group called West Virginia Connecting Communities, which includes some state delegates, hosted its first Legislative Bike Ride Sunday afternoon.
They took off from the Capitol, then made a quick stop at Piedmont Elementary School before pedaling through downtown and back to the Capitol.
Local cycling experts stopped along the way to talk about safety concerns that could interfere with people walking or biking in the community, while opening up discussion on ways to improve those things.
"Our goal is simply to kick off some legislation that'll be introduced during the next session, to really be focused on safety,” Kasey Russell, director of the group, said.
The group hopes this event will be an encouragement to people in Charleston to get more of them out walking and biking in the community.
