Charleston , Kanawha County , West Virginia
Saturday wraps up Fire Prevention Week across the country, and the Charleston Fire Department wants to help everyone prevent kitchen fires in their homes.
During this year's fire safety campaign, fire departments have talked with local residents about not leaving cooking food unattended, cleaning up grease and using a timer.
Cooking is now the leading cause of home fires and fire-related injuries.
As part of the effort, Charleston firefighters held open houses at two of their fire stations Saturday.
The mobile fire safety house was also set up for kids, things firefighters hope helps the public understand their jobs a little better.
Firefighters also offered the opportunity for the community to interact with EMS crews, including free blood pressure checks.
