Fire investigators said an early morning blaze that damaged a Charleston home started when a trash bag was located too close to an air freshener.
A Glade Plug-In was plugged in the back of the Arlington Avenue home in a mud room, investigators said. They said the homeowner had a trash bag too close to it, keeping air from circulating around it and causing the fire.
Investigators believe it was an accident.
A house caught on fire in Charleston early Monday morning.
The fire started about 1:45 a.m., on Arlington Avenue. The house was heavily damaged by smoke and flames. Two people inside the home made it out safely, but the dog did not survive, firefighters said.
Firefighters are not sure how the fire started, but they said they found methamphetamine-making materials and residue in the back of the house. The meth lab was discovered on the first floor in an area away from the origin of the fire.
The fire is under investigation.
One person was arrested for obstruction.
